Brace Friendly Recipes

During certain orthodontic treatments eating some of your favourite meals can be difficult as hard and crunchy foods are best avoided. So our team have put together some recipes that are easy to eat.

Linda’s Beany Crumble

Ingredients

  • 1 can low-sugar baked beans
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • 3 or 4 slices of bread made into breadcrumbs
  • 2 or 3 tomatoes sliced
  • 1 packet grated cheese (Cheddar or Red Leicester)

Put the baked beans in a baking dish, add the sliced mushrooms. Then mix the breadcrumbs with 3/4 of the cheese, sprinkle on top, add the remainder of the cheese. Put the sliced tomatoes on top and bake 40 mins 180deg or gas mark 4.

Vicky’s Macaroni Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Marcaroni
  • 1 cup grated cheese (Cheddar or Red Leicester)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp butter
  • Salt, pepper, paprika as required

Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water as instructed. Whilst the macaroni is cooking combine all other ingredients in a saucepan. Put on a low heat and stir until the sauce has the consistency of a smooth sauce. Then pour your sauce over the strained macaroni and put in an oven proof dish for 20 mins at 180 degrees or gas mark 4.

Emma’s Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 medium carrots chopped
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1 tsp mixed dried herbs
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • Salt & pepper
  • Potatoes for mashing

Brown mince and onion and drain off excess liquid. Return mince and onion to the pan, add peas, garlic, tomatoes and stir. Crumble in beef stock cube and sprinkle herbs. Season to taste. Simmer and stir. Make mashed potatoes. Place the meat mixture in an ovenproof dish, cover evenly with the mashed potatoes. Bake at 180 degrees in pre-heated oven for 30 mins.

Laura’s Sausage Casserole

Ingredients

  • 4 large sausages
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • Small chopped green pepper
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 400g can baked beans
  • 1 tsp tomato purée
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Oil to fry

Grill sausages until cooked through and browned. Fry onion and garlic in wok or frying pan for 2-3 mins. Then add pepper and cook for further 5 mins. Season with salt & pepper to taste. Add tomatoes, tomato purée & Worcestershire sauce and cook for 5-6 mins. Cut up sausages and add to pan with beans until heated, then serve.
